New Tobacco Retailer Regulations
On December 8, 2016, the Board of Health approved a regulation concerning tobacco retailing in Philadelphia. These regulations go into effect in January and February 2017. To review the regulation, click here.
The regulations includes the following:
- An increase in the tobacco permit issuance and renewal fees to $300.
- A limit for each planning district on the number of available permits and a restriction on retailers operating within 500 feet of a K-12 school. Properly issued permits will be grandfathered provided they are not selling tobacco products to minors under the age of 18 years.
- A standardized penalty for selling tobacco to minors: after a third youth sales violation in two years, tobacco sales will be suspended for a year by order of the Department of Public Health.
